In 1950, Christian Dior, is awarded the French Legion of Honor for his contribution to the fashion and textile industry. His career took off and created makeup and shoes in 1953. He began to present collections in America following the 10 Year Anniversary of “The New Look” in 1957.
Christian Dior died of a heart attack at the young age of 52 years old in 1957 and his assistant, Yves Saint Laurent, was appointed creative director for the House of Dior. In January 30 1958, Yves Saint Laurent presents his first collection. It features the innovative Trapèze line, which, with
its ample silhouette, marks a turning point in the history of the House of Dior.
